M5 Aviation Products are the manufacturers of the new M5 Starter and a range of spares and repair schemes for the original M4 Starter, sold from 1993 to around 2006.

M5 Aviation Products is pretty much a one-man business, run by me, Nigel Ramsay. I completed the full range of Rotax Maintenance courses run by Nigel and Conrad Beale, so I have a fair knowledge of the 2 stroke range. A pilot since 1987, I have flown many types, ranging from the original Sluka through several Shadows, a fair few ‘Spam Cans’, several vintage types and (just once) a WW2 Mitchell B25 bomber. Now flying an SSDR Minimax which came with an original M4 Starter and the reason that the M5 was born!

As the original designer of the M4 I felt it was worthwhile to produce a new version in limited quantities and at the same time to provide compatible spares for the many M4s still in use or languishing for want of repair. I started M5 Aviation Products back in 2018 and exhibited at the 2018 LAA Rally. The past 4 years have seen several iterations of the M5, culminating it the 2022 version which is 290gms lighter (12 oz in old money!).

The latest production techniques have allowed us to produce high quality parts at a competitive price meaning that the original purchase price of £375.00 in 1993 had only risen to £479.00 in 2018 for a new starter (inflation from 1993 – 2018 would suggest that it should be £740.00!). Subsequent world events have sadly caused that price to increase as components and machining costs continue to rise. Currently £515.00 it’s still well under that comparable £740!
